The Tailor’s Archive
Every detail has a purpose. A look inside the research, references and obsessions that shape the Ashworth world.

A fictional world becomes convincing through the accumulation of precise, purposeful detail. For the Ashworth Series, tailoring records, trade ledgers, period tools and the language of cloth became more than background decoration: they became evidence of how the family worked, what it valued and what it concealed.
Research began with the practical. How was a garment measured, cut and fitted? What did a workshop sound like after hours? Which entries in a ledger might reveal a thriving business—or hide a dangerous compromise? Each answer opened another door into the Ashworth world.
The archive behind the novels is therefore both historical and emotional. Objects carry memory. A pair of shears can represent mastery, inheritance or threat. A line of stitching can hold something together while quietly revealing the strain beneath it.
